#Postablepopup Winners, Meet Amy!

On the 20th and 21st February 2021, we brought the fabulous craft community back together and hosted our fourth #Postablepopup market! We were ecstatic to welcome around 300 UK based, small independent businesses to our market over the weekend. The hashtag featured a vast range of products from self-care kits, to canine accessories to hand-crafted ceramics, all of which were beautifully presented from the comfort of each maker’s home. With physical markets not able to go ahead due to lockdowns, our online solution has created a community-driven event, that fosters real connections, encourages positive shopping small habits and provides a unique space for shoppers and makers to collide, and for small businesses to continue to show up and showcase themselves within a safe space online.

In the preparation for this market, we encouraged our makers to harness their creativity and really step outside their comfort zones in order to make the most out of the weekend. To supplement our guide of tips for creatives, we put together an Instagram challenge to push makers to experiment one step further online, whilst sharing more detail about themselves and their business with their customers. We were blown away with the responses we received and so began early our nominees for the next #Postablepopup Awards!

This time we hosted 6 awards and today we are proud to share with you our winner of the February 2021 Best Behind-The-Scenes Reel... Meet Amy!

Amy dreamt of starting her own business for years, and when Lockdown hit us all, she grabbed the bull by the horns and began to make it a reality. With 16 years worth of design experience under her belt and her family supporting her every step of the way, Amy has successfully built a brand that reflects her bold style and quirky personality! We chose Amy as our BTS Reel winner because we loved watching Amy and her little dungaree helpers set up her stall. It offered a lovely glimpse into the reality of setting up a stall from home, and a great way to get the family in on the action too!

Where did your love of your craft come from?

Two words...Blue Peter! Encouraged by my arty mum, I was always glueing, sticking, creating! I went to Art college to study graphic design and never looked back.

What made you want to start your small business?

After working as an in house designer for over 16 years I realised I wanted to do something for myself. I had grand plans of setting up my own business during my maternity leave...5 years later in the midst of a global pandemic, I decided it was now or never.

What is your favourite thing about taking part in #Postablepopup?

We had so much fun setting up our virtual stall at home, the girls absolutely adored being involved! From putting on our matching dungarees right through to packing up orders, it really brought the whole family together! I also made so many connections with other postable pop up-ers, the support from the community has been amazing!

Who or what has helped you stay inspired during the lockdown?

My family and friends have been incredibly supportive, always there when I need advice and help, and always more than happy to model my newest earrings! My two girls and husband have given me the time and the motivation to create...and my 4 cats (yes 4!) have definitely inspired more than a few of my products!

If you could choose any independent business, who would you love to collaborate with?

I would have to say Lucy & Yak. I love their passion for their brand and values. They have a fantastic way with design and colour which makes them instantly recognisable.

What is your favourite thing you’ve ever made?

That’s a really difficult one, the beauty of having my own business is that I only put out products that I really love. But if I had to choose I would say my ‘Cat amongst the pigeons’ print will always be special to me as it was the first print I sold and really encapsulates the fun quirkiness of the brand.

If you could describe your shop in three words, what would it be?

Quirky, Bright and Funky!

What is your favourite thing about owning a small business?

Having my own business means total creative freedom! It’s a space where I can be me, a place to express my passions and personality and hopefully create some great products that you’ll love as much as I do!

What advice would you give to fellow small businesses that you wish you knew when you were starting out yourself?

I think the main thing would be not to worry about everything being perfect, just get started! Not every product is going to work, and that’s fine! Your brand will evolve over time and you need to try things to see what works for you. It’s ok to make mistakes because that’s the best way to learn. Just take the pressure off, put yourself out there and give it a go!

Thank you so much for sharing with us Amy!
