Earth friendly finds at Curated Makers

Here at Curated Makers our mission is to support local independents, and one of the things we love to see is an eco conscious business actively working to give their customers Earth friendly alternatives to every day products. With spring just around the corner, bringing with it the inevitable household purging, we’ve outlined some of those eco alternatives in this blog to help you make the switch even easier. So put down those plastic lined face wipes and read on…

Sparrow Road Handmade

Sparrow Road, founded by a Helen in 2018, sells handmade alternatives to your usually non recyclable products. As the average person becomes more aware of their impact on the environment and the traces we leave behind, it’s no surprise that their best selling product at Curated Makers is the reusable makeup remover. These little rounds come in a pack of 5 and are the perfect companion for your favourite cleanser/toner, just pop in the wash when dirty and reuse. Sparrow Road products come in so many beautiful patterns, but this sunflower print is my personal favourite.

Solu Candles

For those of you who enjoy a good soak with a scented candle, Solu have you covered. Solu Candles have you covered. Solu candles are hand poured in small batches, using only clean burning 100% soy wax and premium fragrance oils. If you didn’t know, soy wax is a biodegradable alternative to paraffin wax, which is super toxic and detrimental to your health. Solu products have been one of my biggest recommendations since they joined the Leeds store at the beginning of the year. Their scents are light and non offensive, and not only do they sell candles, their scents come in wax melts, diffusers and room sprays.

Concrete Jungle

It’s a well known fact that plants are natural mood boosters, and while they might not be an eco alternative, why not bring a bit of the outdoors into your home this spring? Artist Lee Kundi started off using surplus cement from his fathers building business , and it has grown into an independent business based in Saltaire selling not only colourful plant pots, but the plants themselves too. We have a few to choose from in store ranging from the indestructible Snake plant for those new to plant care, to the slightly more needy polka dot begonia. Which one sparks joy for you?

Scraplets are a unique concept started by ‘scrapleteer’ Mark, a woodworker based in Leeds. Mark uses reclaimed and recycled wood and building materials to create these awesome little guys and gals, who each come with their own unique stories attached to them. Born from a lockdown project, these colourful little people are sure to brighten your day and make excellent gifts. They come in the form of ornaments, magnets and keyrings.

Whatever changes you decide to make this year, make sure to do it with the Earth in mind. Making small steps to be more eco friendly is a great way to ensure we leave things better than we found them, and who said eco couldn’t be pretty!? We have so much to choose from in store so pop down and see for yourself.

Find all of these items and more at our Trinity Leeds shop. Find us on the ground floor, opposite Office and Moss Bros, not far from New Look and H&M.

We're open 7 days a week for your convenience;

I’m a painter, illustrator and mural artist originally from the North East but living in Leeds currently. I work to achieve a pop surrealist style with bold, bright colours, thought provoking imagery and creepy cute vibes. I’ve been lucky enough to work in the Curated Makers store since opening and it’s been lovely getting to know other makers and learning what makes them tick. Being in the first few years of freelancing it’s been so beneficial finding out what customers actually want. I’d love to see some of your beautiful faces in the shop, so pop down for a chat!
